Finishing school and passing the NCLEX are major steps in your nursing career, but they are just the beginning. Making the transition from student to professional nurse also requires gaining additional knowledge and expertise in clinical skills, critical thinking and professional role assimilation. How you begin your nursing career is an important decision for you and for the safety of your patients. The Nurse Residency Program at Mission Community Hospital is a highly effective, integrated program for new graduate nurses with less than six months of experience. Starting dates for new graduate RN residency cohorts occur frequently throughout the year.
Here are Just a Few Highlights:
- We provide a “blended” learning model: All of our nurse residency programs include online learning, classroom learning, and clinical practice with a preceptor.
- We maximize your clinical time: This is achieved by providing extensive opportunities to practice what you are learning and the skills you are developing. We believe that early “hands on” practice, under the guidance of a skilled preceptor, is an important part of the learning process.
- We offer specialty focused education at a reasonable pace: Our programs function within a 40-hour work week and last between six to ten weeks, depending upon your area of specialty.
- We mentor our nurse residents and our preceptors: Our vision is for all staff members to be successful in their current role, and we desire to help ALL of our nurses reach their maximum potential as a clinician. That’s why we work to provide essential communication, review, support and strategies for developing highly competent nurse residents and preceptors.
- We welcome your input and feedback: You will regularly be asked to provide your personal insights related to our training practices and methodologies. We are constantly working to improve our residency program and provide the best training experience possible. One that meets and exceeds the expectations of our nurse residents and preceptors.
